His case was adjourned and he was placed on bail.Adams, of Chapel Park, Newcastle, admits he has struggled to cope since his release, finding himself penniless and unable to work due to depression.But as he fights for his compensation, the 1990 murder of the ex teacher still remains a mystery.Former science teacher Mr Royal was killed on the doorstep of his home in Whickham, Gateshead, in what was said to be a revenge attack after Mr Royal stabbed a friend of Mr Adams’ in 1987 in self defence.All was going well for Adams until May 6, 1992, when he was arrested for the murder at his home on Sugley Street, Lemington, Newcastle.Before he knew it, he was charged, remanded in custody and 12 months later was convicted of the killing and sentenced to life in prison.That signalled the start of Adams’ fight for justice.
